VeRo is a tourist itinerary across Italy and France

The century-old Cuneo–Ventimiglia–Nice railway line crosses the Alps and reaches the Mediterranean Sea at Ventimiglia or Nice, depending on the section chosen.

From Borgo San Dalmazzo to Breil-sur-Roya, along the 65 km covered by the regular train service, you’ll encounter spectacular views, 4 spiral tunnels, 10 villages and 12 stops to choose from.

MEMO4345 gives voice to the Memorial to the Deportation located right next door; it offers an opportunity to pause and look at ourselves in the mirror of history.
Onement - Former glassworks chimneys
Onement – ciminiere ex-vetreria, Vernante
The artwork “Onement”, by Patrick Tuttofuoco, symbolically connects the two historic chimneys of Vernante’s former glassworks. This site-specific artwork, set in a borderland, reflects on dialogue and the possibility of turning distance into connection.

Notre-Dame des Fontaines

A chapel nestled in the heart of the forest, entirely adorned with colorful medieval frescoes, overlooks seven mysterious springs.
Saorge Monastery
Perched between heaven and earth, a gathering place for artists, it stands as an exceptional example of Baroque architecture, furnishings, and gardens.
Mémoires croisées – former Piène Basse customs house
TAROE’s contemporary artwork, displayed on two facades of the historic Piène-Basse customs house, weaves together heritage, landscape, and history, and reflects on the dialogue between individual and collective memory.

Nestled at the gateway to the Gesso, Stura and Vermenagna valleys, Borgo San Dalmazzo is a privileged hub for discovering the surrounding Alpine landscapes, rich in history and authentic local flavours.
Robilante
LITTLE TRAIN MUSEUM
Robilante a village full of surprises!
Set in a natural basin surrounded by chestnut woods, Robilante preserves rural traditions, from cereal cultivation to stone mills and the characteristic straw roofs still visible in some hamlets.
Vernante
Vernante, a fairytale village
Visiting Vernante means stepping into the world of Pinocchio. Strolling through its streets feels like entering a storybook, with over 150 murals painted on house façades. Vernante is also the gateway to the Maritime Alps Park, a biodiversity reserve twinned with France’s Mercantour Park, just across the Col di Tenda.
Limone Piemonte

Limone’s charming and elegant historic centre, a key crossroads on the route to the Col di Tenda, lies in a natural amphitheatre – an ideal destination for mountain sports in every season.
Tende
Tende, the heart of the Valley of Wonders
Featured in the Michelin Guide, this village perched on the mountainside stands like a beacon along the paths between France and Italy. Stopping in Tende means discovering the cultural treasures of its thousand-year history, while also venturing into the Valley of Wonders and the vast natural landscapes of the Mercantour National Park.
La Brigue
La Brigue, a natural treasure
Once the largest municipality in Italy, La Brigue now preserves its medieval and Baroque heritage in a lush valley at the foot of the mountains. Known for the Notre-Dame des Fontaines chapel and its Brigasque sheep, La Brigue is a village of squares and pedestrian alleys, perfect for wandering, relaxing, and enjoying local cuisine.
Saorge
Saorge, close to the sky
Saorge is often compared to a Tibetan village for the way it clings dramatically to the mountainside. Listed among the most beautiful villages in France, it is a maze of narrow streets, stairways, and vaulted passageways – the famous pountin. These lead to the far end of the village, where the monastery seems almost suspended between sky and earth, overlooking the Roya and Bendola gorges.
Breil-sur-Roya

Breil-sur-Roya, the town of olive trees
Gateway to the upper Roya Valley and the VeRo itinerary, Breil is a charming village with a gentle Provençal atmosphere, embraced by a lake and landscapes covered in olive groves. A perfect destination immersed in nature, Breil is also a haven for outdoor and water sports.

The VeRo experience will be more fulfilling if you have several days, but you can also explore the route on a same-day round-trip train journey departing from Nice, Ventimiglia, Cuneo, or Turin.
